Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
Horror Movie Season is free and ad-free. We only collect the data we need to run the app and keep your watch history, streaks, and awards working. This page explains what we store and why.
What we collect
- Account information. When you sign up we store the email address and password you provide. Authentication is handled by Google Firebase Authentication; we never see or store your password in plain text.
- Your profile. A username, optional display name, and an optional profile picture you choose to upload.
- Your activity. The movies you log (title, the date you watched, and your optional rating), along with the streaks and awards calculated from that activity.
- Usage analytics. We use Firebase Analytics (Google Analytics) to understand how the app is used — page views, feature usage, and error events. This helps us fix bugs and improve the app.
How your data is used and shared
- To run the app. Your watch history, streaks, and awards are stored so they persist between visits and across devices.
- Public vs. private. Your account data is private by default. If you choose to make your profile public, the information shown on your public profile (such as your username, display name, picture, and the activity you share) becomes visible to others. You control this in your profile's privacy settings, and can switch back to private at any time.
- Movie data. Movie details are retrieved from the OMDb API through our own server, so your searches are not sent to third parties with your identity attached.
- We do not sell your data. We don't sell or rent your personal information to anyone, and there are no advertising trackers in the app.
Service providers
We rely on Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore database, Storage, Hosting, and Analytics) to operate the app. Your data is stored on Google's infrastructure and is subject to Google's security and privacy practices.
Your choices and rights
- You can edit your profile and privacy settings at any time from your profile page.
- You can make your profile private so it is no longer visible to other users.
- You can permanently delete your account at any time from your profile page. See Deleting your account below for exactly what is removed and what we keep in anonymized form.
Deleting your account
You can permanently delete your account at any time from the "Danger Zone" on your profile page. Deleting your account removes the information that identifies you: your login and email, your username, display name, and bio, your profile picture, and your streaks and awards. This cannot be undone.
The movies you logged are not deleted. Instead they are anonymized: we keep the movie title, the date it was watched, and any rating, but we permanently remove the link between those records and you. We retain this de-identified history so we can report on aggregate activity across the app — for example, an honest record of which movies have been picked over time. Because these records are disassociated from your account, they are no longer shown as your activity and can no longer be traced back to you.
Children's privacy
Horror Movie Season is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes we'll update the date at the top of this page.
